Lawn bowls at the South Oakleigh Club are played Tuesday, Wednesday (WASA'S) Saturday and some Sundays. Monday Twilight Bowls is played in the summer months.

The South Oakleigh Club has two synthetic greens. One eight rink green and one four rink green which enables members to play all year round (52 weeks of the year), with Glen Waverley Bowling joining us in the winter months for winter triples.

More Victorians participate in lawn bowls, which was even played in England by King Henry VIII and his courtiers, than in Australian Rules Football or any other sport in Australia.

Community perception is often that Lawn Bowls is a game for elderly people. It is a game that many people think they are too young to play, but those from 12 to 20 or 120, who try the game inevitably become addicted. Our Commonwealth Games teams average age is 35. It is not only the skill of the game but the friendships, camaraderie and other activities that create the attraction.

Lawn bowls is played at all levels, Club, Group, State and International. There are competitions for the under 18's, under 25's, open age, over 60's and Veterans. You can play a choice of formats - singles, pairs, triples and fours plus teams of four by four (sixteen players) or four by 2 (eight players) as played in pennant.

Dress at our club is mostly casual (Mufti), but Royal Victorian Bowls Association (RVBA) and Victorian Ladies' Bowling Association (VLBA) are worn during the pennant season (September to April) and special days. SOC colours are green and gold and are featured in our club shirts and jackets.

Championships giving Master status are run for singles, pairs, and triples each year. Other club competitions are also run such as the Proportional, President's Trophy, etc.. All members are invited to take part in these very competitive competitions.

The RBVA and VLBA run Pennant competitions in Metropolitan and Country Victoria during the summer months. Both associations also run various other competitions state wide for singles, pairs, etc.

SOC has 3 RBVA pennant teams participating in Divisions 2, 4, and 6 and 3 VLBA teams participating in Divisions A2 and B3.

The SOC Lawn Bowls runs various special days and in particular in large Classic Singles competition in late November each year.
