Pennant:
The VLBA section lawn bowls last season was another successful
year. Fielding two sides for the season in Divisions A2 Section
6 and B2 Section 9 with good results.
The A2 side made the finals playing at Newport on Thursday
4th March defeating Bennettswood top go into the semi-final
at Yarraville/Footscray on Tuesday 9th March. Unfortunately
they were defeated by Donvale and missed out on playing Sunshine
RSL at Hampton on the 11th March which was won by Sunshine
RSL in a close fort battle.
The B2 side finished fifth on their section ladder on shots
up for third spot after loosing their last game to Beaumaris.
If they had won this last game they would have taken second
spot on their ladder. This was a great effort from a side
which had a large number on first time pennant bowlers.
The RVBA section lawn bowls last season proved a disappointment
losing some games by only a few shots. The result is that
we will play in Divisions 4 and 6 this season. Whilst this
is an embarrassment to many having been in Premier Division
not so long ago it will give us the incentive to get back
to where we belong. So hang in there guys.
All players for the new 2010/2011 season have now been affiliated
and our teams will be entered on the 9th August. We look forward
to a great season.
We hope to attract some new faces, so if you are interested
in lawn bowls please do not hesitate to contact us. We do
have qualified coaches available to help you and bear-foot
bowls will begin again as soon as the weather improves.

The Ladies' Annual Trip to Wallan:
The ladies hired the Glen-Eira Community Bus and three teams
went to Wallan for the annual Metropolitan/Country Day where
Kath Still's elderly mother is a member. As it was Wednesday
17th March (St. Patrick's Day) Judy Casey gave us green rosettes
and Bus Driver Kath wore a Green Top Hat. Mary Lake's team
was defeated for the prize money on a count back and we all
had a great day.
The End of Year Celebrations:
A luncheon was held on Tuesday 16th March, which allowed
the players who play Night Pennant, to enjoy the lunch and
then play pennant at night. The Group18/Monash Councillor
Jan Shaw attended our luncheon and presented Irma Kelly and
Myra Roseman with their Veteran Badges. These badges will
be the last VLBA badges to be presented as the new unified
body Bowls Victoria has now taken the place of the RVBA and
VLBA to run bowls in Victoria. We are very proud of our veterans
and Irma and Myra who are the fifth and sixth ladies at SOC
to receive this distinguished honor.
Mixed Sunday Bowls:
Glenyss Sheedy has run mixed bowls with a barbecue lunch
on the last Sunday of the month this season and we thank Glenyss
for organizing this delightful day. We are enjoying a break
during the cold and wet winter months but hope to resume when
the weather improves in the spring. Please watch the Notice
Board at the Club for information.
Fantastic Plastic:
This popular competition was won by SOC last winter and is
now being played again this winter. Two rounds at Hampton
RSL and SOC already played. The 3rd round will be played at
Hampton Bowling Club on the Sunday 18th July. If you would
like a game please put your name down on the list at the Club
on the bowls notice board. But be quick as response has been
good this year and we will try to give all those interested
a game in the sixteen player side.
SOC Classic Singles:
Todd Simmons from Clayton won this competition for the third
consecutive year at the end of November and we hope to see
him defend the title again this year when it is ryun again
on the 29th November to 3rd December.
Unification:
The two Victorian lawn bowls entities, the RVBA and the VLBA,
have now been unified to run bowls in Victoria. On the Tuesday
20th May a combined meeting of the two SOC bowls committees
met at a Special meeting called to choose and vote for four
ladies and four men from the nominated nine ladies and seventeen
men to form the new board of Bowls Victoria. Those present
also voted that the two committees at SOC should also combine
into one body to run bowls at SOC in the hope that this will
proved beneficial to the Club. The Board of Management has
been asked to approve this move.
On the 20th April S.O.C. bowling members at a combine meeting
agreed that we should also only have one committee to run
bowls our club and sort approval from the Board of Management.
The new combine committee for the new season is as follows:
